Summary
THE FIRST ACT
The first scene "The confusion of the righteous"
The great poet and thinker Alisher Navoi decided to write his great work - a cycle of five poems. He is in doubt and confusion - is there enough strength of his gift, mind and heart to tell people about events and heroes about which his great predecessors have already created their creations?
Wonderful events occur in the space of the surrounding world of the Poet. Navoi sees and hears visions of the great poets of the Past — Nizami and Dekhlavi. They warmly offer the Poet to begin his work and believe in the greatness of his gift, their Muses illuminate the consciousness of Alisher Navoi with their singing.
A great colleague and mentor - the poet Jami himself comes to Navoi, to inspire him to the feat of creativity.
At this moment, the whole Universe reveals a part of its secrets before Alisher Navoi. To comprehend the perfection of the creation of the world - the Poet first sees the beautiful Garden of Paradise, inhabited by beautiful fabulous birds.
Then the infinite Space itself opens to its gaze - and the embodiments of the planets perform their mysterious dances before his gaze. Poet’s attention drawn to the greatness of man - the crown of creation.
And having passed all circles of large and small spaces, Alisher Navoi proclaims the true meaning of the greatness of Man to people.
The second scene - “Farkhod and Shirin”
The poet tells about the fiery and great love of the hero Farkhod and the Armenian princess Shirin. The all-powerful shah Khusrav is going to destroy their happiness, burning with passion for the beautiful Shirin.
Farkhod and Shirin are enjoying undisturbed happiness, it seems to them that it will certainly come true.
But the mysterious stranger in a suffering tone tends to bring confusion in the spirit of Farkhod. And the emerging powerful ruler of Khusrav demands humility and obedience from Farkhod. His will is steady - Farkhod must forget about Shirin. The dispute between Khusrav and Farkhod reaches its highest point - and the angry shah orders to seize the daring opponent. The heroic power of Farkhod turns out to be more powerful than the forces of the guards - then the almighty Shah summons the magical forces of the rocks to seize and hold down Farhod, forever chaining him to the dead rocks.
Alone, the beautiful Shirin yearns for her beloved, directing the gust of her hot heart towards him.
And Farkhod, illumined by her love, finds strength in himself, and appealing to all the elements of the world, he asks for help. Breaking the shackles, he breaks the rock, the gates of evil forces - and life-giving water rushes at will.
The lovers are ready to unite, but the eternal and unremitting evil will of Khusrav is an eternal barrier between them.
The third scene - “Leyli and Majnun”
Well known to the whole world the legend of love and loyalty of young Leyli and Kaise, known as Majnun (“madman”) for everlasting love, has become a symbol of the highest foundations of the spiritual and moral foundation of a true Man.
The sad tune of the choir voiced a premonition of the tragic fate of lovers.
Leyli and Majnun are separated. In the symbolic desert, they strive for each other, yearn for, light up with hope, and again fall into sadness. Silent Maidens of the Sands as a symbol of separation - interfere with their reunion.
Their fathers perceive this love differently. Leila's father is angry and obsessed only with his anger - and does not recognize the possibility of rapprochement between lovers.
Majnun's saddened father in his grief cannot find a solution to this fatal problem either. The souls of Leyli and Majnun seek each other, their fathers froze in confusion. Time seemed to stop - and in the silence, the sounding thoughts and feelings of the heroes are heard.
Unable to bear the separation, Leyli and Majnun pass away.
Alisher Navoi himself bitterly mourns their fate, touched to the depths of the soul by the weight of the doom of Love in the human world...
THE SECOND ACT
The fourth scene - "Seven Planets"
Alisher Navoi leads a new story about the powerful Shah Bakhrom in love with his beautiful concubine Dilorom. Shah inflamed passion for the beautiful Dilorom, offers her rich gifts and high position - but the beauty does not find the strength to respond to his feeling.
At the Shah's Ball, on the orders of the mighty Bakhrom, seven beauties from various world countries appear. Aware of their beauty and passion, Shah Bakhrom cannot renounce his love for Dilorom. He again and again appeals to her with a love call - and again he does not find an answer.
Like the seven planets of Beauty, the beauties of the world are replaced before the eyes of Shah Bakhrom. The last time Bakhrom called Dilorom, and without meeting her reciprocal feeling, sends her out of the palace, calling for a stormy feast to begin. In the midst of the feast, one of the beauties brings a cup of wine to Bakhrom. In an effort to forget himself, the shah drinks poisoned wine - and falls dead...
The fifth scene - "The Wall of Iskandar"
Alisher Navoi tells the story of the powerful commander Iskandar (Alexander of Macedon), who, having conquered half the world, sent his troops to India.
The great commander Iskandar is obsessed with conquest of the world. He calls his warriors to new attacks, anticipating the glory and majesty of the victor.
The warriors past him with parade march. Sogdian prisoners appear in front of Iskandar in a smooth and slightly sorrowful dance.
And then, on the orders of the commander, a stormy battle begins. Intoxicated at first with a thirst for battle, Iskandar sees with horror how in this battle there are no living warriors left - everyone becomes a victim of a merciless Death. And Death itself, triumphant, performs its dance on the dead bodies.
Iskandar's mind is darkened - it seems to him that the ghosts of the dead warriors angrily condemn him, who has thrown them into the mouth of meaningless war and doom.
And Death by its prophetic touch of the hand deprives the commander of strength and dooms to death. The dying Iskandar deeply repent of his designs and realizes the perniciousness of any war. the vision of the Mother comes before his eyes, he fervently asks her for forgiveness, calls for peace - and leaves earthly life.
Alisher Navoi, completing his narrative, glorifies the world, the unity of people, the eternal light power of love and humanity. He calls people to unity and friendship, bequeathes to keep the true greatness of Man as the crown of creation. Hearing the words and appeals of the great Poet, the people praise him for the mighty gift and greatness of the creation he created, which should live for many centuries.
