SUMMARY
PROLOGUE
Prologue. Night. Zulfiya writes a dedication to Khamid. The portrait on the table evokes a vivid image. She hears the voice of the poet. The spring of her love takes Zulfia in her younger years, in the period of dreams and the brightest hopes. She is approaching the window, as if striving to enter the desired world of youth.
I ACT. I scene
People gathered at the foot of the mountain on the occasion of the holiday of spring. At the height of the fun, Khamid and Zulfiya appear - their hearts are filled with happiness. They willingly take part in folk games and dances. Embraced by the general rise, Khamid and Zulfiya glorify spring, the awakening of life, and happiness in their native land.
II scene
The meeting with Khamid left a deep impression on Zulfiya’s soul. Overcome by a special feeling, she resorts into the garden to sort herself out. Here, in a secluded corner, a poem about inspiration lay down on the paper. Girls and bakhshi appear. Their singing attracts Khamid and Zulfiya. The inspired poet does not hide his feelings for Zulfiya.
III scene
Years pass. Zulfiya and Khamid joined their fates. Their home in Tashkent is filled with friends. Gafur Ghulyam and Aibek are among them. New lines about Mukanna delight the poets. The unexpectedly emerged mushoira - the contest of poets - delights all those present. In the midst of fun, somebody rush in the house with the message about the beginning of the war.
All freeze.
II ACT. IV scene
Khamid’s death shook Zulfia. Days bring her deep feelings and sufferings. The image of the dearest person is not erased in her imagination. Dedicating the next lines of poem to Khamid, tired Zulfiya falls asleep. Inflamed imagination evokes the image of Khamid and some strange picture of a requiem. Pictures appear and disappear. Khamid's voice urges Zulfia to perseverance and courage. The people support him. Zulfiya awakens and, drawn by Khamid’s inviting voice, rushes toward a new life.
V scene
Friends celebrate the anniversary of Zulfiya. In a whirlwind of dance and singing, inspirational initiations of Gafur Guliam, Aibek and Zulfiya’s students will be carried through. The happy poetess thanks the people and directs them to great achievements.
