Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater is one of the oldest opera houses in Russia, the bearer of the traditions of Russian and world musical culture. In 2012, the theater will celebrate its most significant anniversary in history – 100 years from its foundation.
The repertoire of the theater invariably contains masterpieces of world opera and ballet classics and works by contemporary composers: W.A. Mozart, R. Wagner, J. Verdi, J. Puccini, J. Rossini, P. Tchaikovsky, A. Borodin, N. Rimsky- Korsakov, M. Mussorgsky, S. Prokofiev, D. Shostakovich, R. Shchedrin, A. Petrov, and others.
The Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater has gained fame as one of the best in Russia, primarily thanks to the constant presence of talented musicians and performers in the troupe. In Yekaterinburg, the singers S. Lemeshev, I. Kozlovsky, the Pirogov brothers began their creative career. At all times outstanding masters worked here: soloists of the opera I. Arkhipov, B. Shtokolov, Y. Guliaev, E. Altukhova, V. Ognovenko, G. Gorchakova, E. Voznesenskaya, conductors K. Tikhonov (one of the founders of "Helikon-Opera") And E. The tour performances of the theater team have always been and will serve as verification of the troupe's professionalism, an opportunity to demonstrate creative achievements and successes. Ekaterinburg Ballet has an extensive repertoire, today one of the richest and most diverse collections of ballet classics, especially in comparison with other non-capital Russian theaters. Among the productions of recent years, the "Corsair" by A. Adan (choreographer - Jean-Guillaume Bar, France), "Stone Flower" by S. Prokofiev (choreographer - People's Artist of Russia Andrei Petrov, Moscow), “Giselle” by A. Adan (choreographer - People's Artist of the USSR, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR Lyudmila Semenyaka), "Love and Death" by P. Bulbyl oglu (choreographer - Honored Artist of Russia Nadezhda Malygina), "Swan Lake" by P. Tchaikovsky (choreographer - People's Artist of the USSR, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR Lyudmila Semenyaka).
Since the mid-80s, the ballet company regularly performs foreign tours to such countries as France, Norway, Denmark, Japan, India, Mexico, Chile, Korea, Australia, and Italy.
The joint project is the ballet troupe of the Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater and the Symphony Orchestra of the SABT named after A.Navoi.
