Plot
Count Richard arranges the Ball Masquerade at the castle, he is secretly in love with Amelia, the wife of his secretary Renato. Renato warns the count of the impending assassination attempt on him.
The judge brings a verdict on the expulsion of the witch Ulrike. Oscar - the page of the count is standing up for her. Richard offers friends to go to Ulrika.
Amelia is in the witch's dwelling - she asks her to get rid her of the criminal passion for the count. The sorceress tells her to tear a magic flower at cemetery at night, it will drive out love. Dressed in a fishing suit, Richard overhears the conversation and decides to go to the cemetery after his beloved... Ulrika predicts to him an early death from the one who is the first to give him his hand. This is Renato. Richard laughs at the witch, not believing in the prediction.
Amelia is looking for a flower in the cemetery. Richard appears and confesses to her in love. Unexpectedly, Renato finds them: without recognizing his wife, he warns the count of the approach of the conspirators and gives him his cloak. Richard takes from his friend an oath that he holds a woman wrapped in a cloak and veil to the city, without speaking, without trying to find out who she is. The conspirators, who met the secretary instead of the count, are enraged. They want to know who the lady is. Renato draws a sword. To save him, Amelia sheds her veil. Renato is shocked. He will avenge Richard and his unfaithful wife.
Cabinet of Renato. Amelia prays, in the name of their son, to save her life. Renato decides to spare her, take revenge on the count. Plotters are there. The fate to kill the Count falls out to Renato, this must happen at the ball.
Richard decides to send Renato to England, so as not to meet more with Amelia... Honor and duty tells him to do it. The page sends the letter to the Count without a signature. This is Amelia, who guessed the plot, warns Richard of the imminent threat of death on his masquerade.
But Richard only thinks about one thing: at the ball he will see his beloved, he can say goodbye to her.
Renato appears at the ball and strikes the opponent with a dagger. The dying Richard forgives him and swears that Amelia's honor was not tarnished.
